Steps to Better Behaviour by Chris Sullivan
This three-book resource series provides practical support for classroom teachers, teacher aides and specialist staff working with whole classes or individuals where behaviour is an issue. It is packed with practical ideas, strategies and resources that successful teachers and schools have used to promote positive behaviour in difficult circumstances
STEPS to Better Behaviour uses the STEPS approach. Essentially the STEPS approach is about understanding the relationships among the following four factors:
- STUDENT – including the student’s prior experiences, physical and physiological needs, and relationships with other students, with teachers and with parents/caregivers
- TEACHER – including the beliefs, skills, training and prior experiences that he or she brings to the role
- ENVIRONMENT classroom environment – both the physical and learning environments, including the curriculum and the “hidden curriculum”
- PARENT – parental partnership – the partnership between home and school.
All three books contain a wide range of real-life case studies faced by students and teachers to illustrate the theories, supporting templates, frameworks and student resource sheets to support the implementation of the ideas.
