Purpose:
The Search for Sounds posters have been developed to demonstrate how words work
- words are made up of sounds
- the same sound is in many different words
- the same sound can be heard in different positions inwords.
Understanding that a word is made up of sounds is critical for understanding the Alphabetic Principle – that when we write words down, we are really writing down the sounds that they are made up of.
