AirBadminton, the new game developed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), is designed to create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play badminton on different surfaces including on hard, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches. AirBadminton is an exciting, new, energetic version of the Badminton sport and aims to inspire more people to play more badminton in more places.
This new outdoor game is played with a new outdoor shuttlecock, the AirShuttle, with increased durability, stability and wind resistance (up to 12km/h) to allow people to have a more positive experience of badminton outdoors.
This game is also played on new court dimensions, making it more suitable to play in outdoor environments. The 16m long and 6m wide court (5m in singles) includes a 2m dead zone on each side of the net where the shuttle is not allowed to touch the ground and where the player cannot enter to hit the AirShuttle.
AirBadminton can be played in singles, doubles and even triples! The standard badminton regulation applies for AirBadminton except in triples event. Triples is played by teams of three, each containing a minimum of one female player. One player cannot hit two consecutive strokes. This rule creates more movement and increases the tactical elements of the game.
