Yellow – Levels 6, 7 and 8
The median length of books in PM Yellow Level is 127 words. New vocabulary is introduced slowly, making it easier for young readers to absorb. New words are surrounded by a context of familiar sentence structures and familiar words. The average rate of new word introduction at this level is one new word for every 21 words met before.
The PM Yellow Level texts offer opportunities for focusing on initial consonants and consonant blends. Common word endings in this level include –ed and –ing. Common letter clusters include sit, hit, cat, fat, day, stay, bee and tree. Compound words such as inside, sandpit and birthday are introduced at this level.
Approximately 100 high frequency words should be known by the end of Yellow Level.
