An exploration of young children’s motor development, emergent handwriting and the influence of environmental factors on development.

This webinar will explore findings from Sineád’s doctoral thesis in the area of motor development and the influence of fine and gross motors skills on emergent handwriting. Sinéad will present findings from her research relating to differences in motor development between children attending DEIS and non-DEIS schools.

The influence of environmental factors, including access to resources in the community and the quality of Early Childhood Education and Care settings will be explored.

About Sinéad

Dr Sinéad McCauley Lambe is an Assistant Professor at Dublin City University in the School of Inclusive and Special Education. Prior to her move to teacher education, Sinéad taught for 11 years in St. Vincent’s Infant Boys’ school in North William Street. Here, Sinéad moved into a SET role and worked with children with ASD and those experiencing a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. It was this work that ignited Sinéad’s interest in educational disadvantage, motor development and early intervention. Sinéad completed her Masters in Educational Disadvantage and her Doctoral Research in DCU. Her research interests include infant motor development and emergent handwriting development. She strongly believes in the power of puppets and playful learning experiences to engage those learners who need us the most.
